If you'll be on the late tonight, plan another route. The S.C. Department of Transportation will close it to vehicle traffic from 9 p.m. Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday for final repairs and to restore access to maintenance areas. The work is part of a larger structural repair project that is nearing completion.

Monday, the City of Charleston and SCDOT mark the 100th anniversary of the Ashley River Memorial Bridge. Wednesday is Veterans Day, so most federal agencies and banks are closed.

Thursday, the S.C. holds a public hearing to gather testimony about the proposed $67 billion sale of Dominion Energy South Carolina's parent company to NextEra Energy. If you've got thoughts on the deal, that's the room.

  • Tue., Nov. 10: October consumer price index comes out
  • Thu., Nov. 12: 6 p.m. hearing, 4045 Bridgeview Drive, North Charleston

Conservation groups seal a deal to permanently protect Awendaw's 229-acre White Tract

Two decades of fighting over a patch of Awendaw is ending. Conservation groups announced Nov. 6 a deal to permanently shield the 229-acre , which sits next to the , from development.

In 2006, the tract was approved for development. A big point of tension was septic tanks, which conservationists say would pollute the area and beyond town lines. Under the settlement agreement, Pulte Home Company said, the Open Space Institute can permanently preserve the land, which it called "a unique opportunity."

“The marsh is a filter for our groundwater, which is our drinking water here. It buffers our communities, even our broader communities into Mount Pleasant, from storms and flooding.”

Grace Gasper, executive director of Friends of Coastal South Carolina
  • Original plan: more than 200 homes, all on septic
  • Closing: both parties will officially close in December
  • Legal challenges: the settlement brings them to an end
  • Long-term plan: eventually fold it into Cape Romain

  2. Aug. 2026A Charleston County Council agenda item makes the deal public.
  3. Nov. 6Conservation groups announce the settlement.
  4. Dec. 2026Both parties will officially close on the agreement.

The Wrap

Thousands of cyclists took over the Isle of Palms on Saturday for the eighth annual Lowvelo ride. Organizers say about 2,050 riders pedaled routes from 7 to 80 miles, in colorful outfits and matching themed shirts, and families enjoyed live music and a kids zone at the event. Now that's a pretty sight on two wheels.
