If you live in Mount Pleasant, this vote funds a project near you. Charleston County voters chose to keep the half-cent transportation sales tax. The Post and Courier reports both related questions passed with nearly 64% of the vote in early results, to be certified later this week. The tax is expected to generate $4.25 billion over 25 years.

Mount Pleasant has a line on the project list: redesigning the intersection of Highway 17 and Houston Northcutt Boulevard. Past transportation taxes helped widen U.S. 17 here. Voters rejected a 2024 tax that would have mainly funded the , so the county sought input from local mayors and residents. Council Chairman Joe Boykin said this will span 25 years.

  • Rate: no increase over the sales tax you pay now
  • Old tax: expires next year
  • Also funded: Battery seawall extension, U.S. 17 South widening in West Ashley
  • Also funded: North Charleston overpass where rail crosses Rivers Avenue
