BUSINESS NEWS

  • BermudAir is expanding its once-weekly service from Charleston International Airport by adding flights on Thursdays and Sundays beginning August 7 and running through October—this change replaces the Saturday flight, which will run for the final time on August 2. Flight times are set at 3:15 p.m.—4:45 p.m. from Bermuda to Charleston and 5:54 p.m.—8:55 p.m. for the return.  WCBD

CRIME NEWS

  • Government records show that Bhagavan 'Doc' Antle pleaded guilty to money laundering and trafficking endangered animals using cash from immigrant smuggling — he was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, must pay a $55,000 fine, turn himself in within 60 days, and forfeit three chimpanzees.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Big Blue Marble Academy welcomed the community at a ribbon cutting held on July 8 — Mount Pleasant officials and Chamber reps attended the event — and the academy now offers preschool and afterschool programs to support cognitive and emotional development at 2950 Rivertowne Pkwy.  Moultrie News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette is leading the Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders initiative to help teenagers enter the workforce by providing mock interviews and resume tips today. The program partners with local businesses — including the Charleston RiverDogs — to lower teen unemployment and fill job vacancies.  WCIV
  • At Tuesday night meeting in Mount Pleasant, the Town Council voted 7—1 to oppose a compromise plan that would add a two-lane road along the edge of Laurel Hill Park for the Highway 41 Corridor Improvement Project. More than 30 residents opposed the plan while project officials said the road is needed to improve traffic flow and secure state funding—leaving open the possibility for alternative proposals.  WCIV
