- ➤ Coastal Community Foundation announced that applications are open for faith-based organizations to receive grants from its new fund, thanks to a $500,000 investment from Boeing—supporting afterschool education, financial literacy, healthcare access and grocery support. Grants averaging $5,000 are available to state-registered charities until June 1 and selections will be announced in December. Moultrie News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Charleston Police Department released new details on a fatal auto-pedestrian collision that occurred Wednesday morning at around 6:15 a.m. on Savannah Highway near Skylark Drive — a Toyota sedan traveling northbound struck a pedestrian attempting to cross — and officers are asking witnesses with useful information to come forward. - ➤ The Black Food Truck Festival will be held at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds in Ladson from April 25 to April 27, offering a weekend of food, live music and cultural events—more than 40 food trucks and several live stages will feature performers like DJ Illadell and local talent. Moultrie News

- ➤ Gloria Lopez Rojas reflected on her 12 years in CCSD and credited Early College for boosting her academic success—she is set to graduate in May with an associate's degree. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Representative Bill Taylor introduced bill H.3276—known as the South Carolina Hands-Free And Distracted Driving Act—to ban drivers from holding their phones, saying distracted driving kills nearly 20 people every week and could save about 170 lives in its first year. The House passed the bill on April 9 and it now sits in the Senate transportation committee while drivers caught holding a phone face a $100 fine that will double for repeat offenses. WCIV
- ➤ At its April 15 meeting, the GREEN Commission moved closer to finalizing its 2025 Workplan as Neighborhood Livability Division Chief Liz Boyles explained plans to improve stormwater management. The plan will support outreach on storm drain labeling and community cleanups—along with future events such as the April 27 Blessing of the Fleet. Moultrie News
