- ➤ The Holy City Missions Winter Warming Shelter at Aldersgate (1444 Remount Road, North Charleston) opens today amid forecast cold temperatures to offer hot food and showers for up to 65 people. Registration runs from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and pets are not permitted. WCIV
- ➤ Adler Realty LLC sponsored pet adoptions for five dogs and one cat now available through Charleston Animal Society (2455 Remount Road in North Charleston), providing Mount Pleasant residents with a chance to welcome new furry friends into their homes. Moultrie News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Osceola, a revered Seminole leader who briefly arrived on Sullivan’s Island in late December 1837, was given military honors at Fort Moultrie after dying from malaria and infection, solidifying his place in Lowcountry history. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Christopher Gadsden — a Charleston native — designed the flag with a coiled rattlesnake and 'Don't Tread On Me' message 250 years ago during the Revolutionary War. His historic design endures as an important part of our local heritage. The Post and Courier
