- ➤ Rear Adm. James H. Flatley III, a Patriots Point pioneer who was the first to land a C-130 on an aircraft carrier, died Dec. 12; he received the Order of the Palmetto and left a lasting mark on naval aviation and local community service (his career spanned 31 years). The Post and Courier
- ➤ Point Hope Church is hosting a free live nativity and petting zoo event today that begins at 1 p.m. with cake, coffee, and activities (including dress-up costumes and animals) and includes candlelight services at 3 and 5 p.m., with overflow parking at Park West Recreation Center. WCIV
- ➤ In Mount Pleasant, owner Jeff Richard provided free haircuts for furloughed workers during the government shutdown that began Oct. 1—community donations reached $6,000, and leftover funds were later given to a local food support organization. The Post and Courier
