- ➤ Mitch Albom visited Charleston Library Society on Dec. 9 to discuss his new novel, Twice, at its historic King Street location after an Oct. 30 event was postponed because of travel issues + signed copies remain available online. Moultrie News
- ➤ Lowcountry residents continue to showcase festive holiday decorations like the Grinch and Minions in neighborhoods this season. Neighbors can share photos on News 4’s Chime In page to join the community celebration (details provided by the report). WCIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Vanessa Brown was named the 2025 Star Principal by CCSD on Dec. 10, recognizing her transformational leadership at Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies and her work to expand student opportunities in the high school learning community. Charleston County School District
- ➤ Charleston County School District honored Corey McDonald, principal of Septima P. Clark Academy, as the 2025 Star Rookie Principal on Dec. 10. His leadership boosted classroom instruction, school culture, and postsecondary readiness (including improved disciplinary practices and early academic gains). Charleston County School District
- ➤ On Dec. 10, 2025, CCSD named Paul Pallagi of Pinehurst as the 2025 Star Principal for the Elevation Learning Community, recognizing his work in strengthening instruction and boosting attendance and academic gains, especially for multilingual learners and students facing poverty (per CCSD officials). - ➤ The Charleston County School District named Becky Accolla 2025 Star Rookie Principal on Dec. 10 at Carolina Park Elementary. She has 20 years of experience and twice was Teacher of the Year, and she strengthened routines and teaching for students (building strong teacher-student bonds). Charleston County School District
- ➤ Charleston County School District named Chris Haynes the 2025 Star Principal for the Middle School Learning Community on Dec. 10. His leadership at Jerry Zucker Middle School of Science has boosted academic performance and school culture (with fewer absences and higher reading scores) since he joined in 2021. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Dec. 9 council meeting, Mount Pleasant officials unanimously approved naming Rifle Range Road Park after former lawmaker Gary Santos, honoring his 30-year work to build community recreation. Moultrie News

- ➤ The Charleston RiverDogs announced that Hall of Famer Chipper Jones will headline the 22nd Annual Hot Stove Banquet on Jan. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Charleston Gaillard Center (proceeds benefit MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital). Moultrie News
