- ➤ Organizations across the Lowcountry joined forces on Wednesday to provide meals and utility assistance to families facing tighter budgets ahead of Thanksgiving—more food drives will be available this week and next to support those in need. The Charleston Police Department also hosted a drive-thru food distribution event to further help local residents. WCBD
- ➤ Lowcountry Senior Center is a haven for healthy aging—seniors on James Island receive support and enjoy community activities such as chair volleyball. Joanne Tucker volunteers every Saturday to honor her father Joe Hanf’s legacy of more than 10,000 hours of service at the center. Moultrie News
- ➤ Meals on Wheels-Feeding Friends will hold a Holiday Art Sale on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2304 Highway 17 North near Christ Episcopal Church—where president George Roberts will showcase his original artwork, prints, framed pieces, note cards and scarves with all proceeds benefiting local meal service. - ➤ South Carolina Aquarium is inviting the Lowcountry to join a festive holiday season starting Nov. 28 with dive shows, animal encounters, and Santa photo sessions (available 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on select days). Aquarium Aglow begins on Nov. 21 and will show large festive installations for visitors to capture memorable photos. WCIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina Arbor Day tree planting is set for Dec. 5 at Pitt Street Bridge but will not remove invasive salt cedars—marshland areas make removal unsafe, a Mount Pleasant Planning Department rep said. The project will add 13 live oaks on the north face and install a salt-tolerant pollinator garden near the historic marker, with the exact time still pending. Moultrie News
