COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After SNAP benefits returned, local nonprofit groups extended the food drive until November 26 to help families in need — donations can be dropped off at Mount Pleasant libraries. Community partners reported increased local support that keeps food programs running for those who need help.  WCIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Daniel Island Historical Society launched the Bill Payer History Hero Award to honor local residents preserving history — nominations are due by Nov. 30 for Charleston County or Berkeley County residents with emphasis on Daniel Island and Cainhoy Peninsula, and the first honoree will be named in January.  Moultrie News
  • In the latest episode of Sip & Style, hosts Hannah Baker and Claudia Landis offered fall bouquet styling tips and men’s gift ideas while visiting T.D. McMurry in Mount Pleasant and hearing expert advice from Church Creek Florals owner Hannah Elgradawy. The episode also promotes a bouquet workshop on November 20 at Kohler downtown—participants should register through Instagram.  WCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Wando High School on November 12, 13 seniors signed letters of intent to play college sports, choosing programs at several colleges—this event celebrated their standout athletic skills.  Moultrie News
  • Thirteen student athletes from Oceanside Collegiate Academy celebrated their college commitments on Signing Day on Thursday — they signed with Saint Mary’s, Western North Carolina and the University of New Hampshire; Ella Petry, who will attend the University of Maryland, thanked her coaches, teammates and family.  WCIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charleston County Council approved nearly $5M in Transportation Sales Tax funds on Monday to support 10 Greenbelt projects that protected over 1,781 acres across the county+ officials said the funding will reduce flood risks and block future residential development.  WCIV
  • South Carolina’s SNAP program began restoring full benefits today for households with issuance dates between November 1 and November 14 — others will receive benefits on their regular schedule as funding is secured until September 30.  WCBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • A local non-profit in Charleston is empowering girls through after school sports programs that teach sports skills and leadership—Leveling the Fields is active in five schools in Berkeley and Charleston counties and is free for students from rural or Title I schools.  WCIV
