  • Metto Coffee & Tea has served Mount Pleasant residents and visitors as a community gathering spot for nearly two decades—owner Sarah Parrish said the shop supports local culture amid rapid tourism and new residents.  Moultrie News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Beverly Hardin has been named the new Executive Director and Chief Philanthropy Officer for the USS Yorktown Foundation — she will lead daily operations and a fundraising campaign to launch Patriots Point’s Museum Master Plan. A veteran nonprofit leader with over 25 years of experience, Hardin now lives in Mount Pleasant with her husband and dog.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in kindergarten through second grade at Sanders-Clyde Elementary performed 'Where the Wild Things Are' during a recent Open House Night — using theater, movement, music, and art — to bring Maurice Sendak's story alive.  Charleston County School District

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Governor Henry McMaster and the South Carolina Office of Resilience said on Nov. 12 that clean-up work on the USS Yorktown is complete, having removed over 1.6 million gallons of dangerous fluids and more than 9 tons of asbestos. The project, part of his 2022 order to protect Charleston Harbor, helped prevent environmental harm—ensuring safety for the local area.  Moultrie News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charleston County Emergency Management conducted a full-scale simulation yesterday to test response to a train derailment that released hazardous materials into the community. Over 13 agencies including police, fire, EMS, and hazmat teams worked together—ensuring they will be ready if a similar incident occurs.  WCBD
  • Residents on Daniel Island are raising concerns about e-bike safety after kids as young as 7 are seen riding without helmets and speeding on main roads. A coalition of over 100 locals (including Scott Noonan) is working with local leaders to develop rules such as a minimum age (16) and increased safety education to prevent accidents.  WCBD

  • Local athletes inked college deals on Signing Day as basketball player Dyarri Braddick chose Clemson Tigers, the Pine twins signed to sail for Brown University, and a beach volleyball player committed to Erskine College—Wando High School also reported several Division I commitments.  WCIV
