- ➤ Moultrie News has launched a 'Letters to Santa' program that invites children to drop off their wish lists at The Village Bookseller, Melvin’s BBQ, and Liam John until Dec. 3—letters will be published on Dec. 17 to honor the local holiday tradition. Moultrie News

- ➤ Two local businesses in Mount Pleasant are offering Veteran’s Day deals—T.D. McMurry will donate 15% of its proceeds on Monday, Nov. 10 and Tuesday, Nov. 11 to the Warrior Surf Foundation, which provides surf therapy and yoga for veterans. Melvin’s BBQ will also give a free Little Joe sandwich to veterans and active-duty military on Nov. 11 when they show military ID. WCBD

- ➤ Officials from the Carolina Emergency Response Team searched Charleston Harbor on Friday for 19-year-old Owen Kenney, who was last seen walking onto the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway after video evidence confirmed he took his own life—boaters were urged to report any unusual findings. WCIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ CCSD Superintendent Anita Huggins said the district earned high marks on the Education Recovery Scorecard for its post-pandemic gains but still faces challenges with chronic absenteeism and poverty, with one in six students missing over 10% of the school year. She said CCSD will expand initiatives—such as early learning programs and the 'Be Here, Be Great' attendance plan—in 2026 to close these gaps. Moultrie News

- ➤ The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network is telling boaters along North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia coasts to slow down and keep a 500-yard distance from the endangered right whales, which will soon start their migration. Sightings were made near Hilton Head Island, Savannah and Cape Lookout and calving season runs from Nov. 15 to April 15 (mothers and calves are at risk) (about 380 whales remain). WCIV
- ➤ Local farmers in the Lowcountry are preparing for below freezing weather coming Monday—Farmers like Pete Ambrose will cover crops and harvest remaining fruits while Clemson Extension advises delaying fertilizing and new plantings; winter crops such as collard greens and broccoli may handle the chill better than others. - ➤ South Carolina electric co-ops met Friday to plan for rising power needs and ensure reliable outages response amid strengthening storms. Leaders said rapid growth in the Lowcountry calls for ongoing infrastructure expansions — they will adjust plans and use mutual aid to tackle rising energy costs. WCIV
- ➤ The Town of Mount Pleasant opened 1.5 miles of new bike lanes along Coleman Boulevard on Nov. 7 and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor late shrimper Wayne Magwood + local leaders praised the project for connecting riders from the Ravenel Bridge to Sullivan’s Island + urging safe, shared pathways.
