COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local organizations and churches are uniting to feed families as many Lowcountry residents wait for reduced SNAP benefits amid the government shutdown—one church donated $8,000 and the Coastal Community Foundation contributed over $100,000 to help meet the rising need. The Community Resource Center in North Charleston reported that demand has surged, with nearly 1,500 vehicles expected today as food bank walk-ins have tripled.  WCIV
  • The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant welcomed Preston Maile as its newest member at its Nov. 5 meeting — Rotary President Ken Tallmadge swore him in and praised his integrity and passion for service — while noting Maile serves as a project engineer for Earthsource Engineering.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lowcountry Literacy Project announced a funding partnership with The Boeing Company to expand multisensory literacy instruction in Charleston County schools in 2025. Boeing’s investment will support training for 31 new teachers at St. Andrew’s School of Math and Science—Matilda Dunston Elementary and Ladson Elementary to help hundreds of students improve reading skills.  Moultrie News
  • The Charleston County School District Board released a unified report after finishing the evaluation of Superintendent Anita Huggins on November 5, which showed her performance as exemplary—especially in fiscal management, community relations, and student outcomes. Board members noted strong gains in instructional quality and equity that support the district’s focus on strong student results.  Charleston County School District

  • Charleston's Kayla Edwards won the Ironman 70.3 in Wilmington, North Carolina the weekend before Halloween—she raced a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a half-marathon while earning a gold medal and celebrating with pizza and champagne.  WCIV
