- ➤ Charlamagne Tha God donated funds to the Harvesting Hope Food Pantry in Moncks Corner to help provide 25,000 meals for families facing hardship amid SNAP cuts, furloughs, and layoffs during the government shutdown—officials say his gift may be matched to double the meal support to 50,000. WCBD
- ➤ The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care Charleston meets quarterly at New Realm Brewing on Daniel Island where members listen to three brief charity presentations with question and answer sessions and then vote to decide which nonprofit will receive over $20,000 in donations. Since starting in April 2022, the group has donated over $276,169 to charities in the Charleston tri-county area—showing the power of collective giving. Moultrie News

- ➤ Elected officials restarted the Countywide Intergovernmental Flood Prevention Task Force as engineers and stormwater staff met on Friday to tackle chronic flooding in West Ashley and James Island — the task force now accepts public input and will meet next in Charleston on February 13. SC Sen. Ed Sutton, the chair, said 571 flood requests have been received and local agencies will work together on drainage projects. WCBD

- ➤ Erin Grimm—a cancer survivor—learned she had colon cancer during her 50th birthday celebration and then had a nearly 10-hour surgery to remove part of her colon and other organs. She is feeling much better and now plays tennis about five days a week as she nears her 51st birthday. WCBD
- ➤ Food banks in the Lowcountry are bracing for longer wait times as over 500,000 people could lose SNAP benefits in November. The Summerville Food Bank moved to a larger space at Morningstar Storage — officials warn that donation shortages are already affecting supplies. WCIV
- ➤ Luke Shirley—a College of Charleston graduate—started his nonprofit Quest in Recovery to offer mental health support to students at CofC and The Citadel. He faced depression during his student years and now gives his peers a trusted resource to talk about their struggles. WCIV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mount Pleasant officials dedicated the town hall gym to national sports commentator Debbie Antonelli Friday afternoon. The gym was named 'The Deb'—announced in May—and Antonelli said it will inspire young girls to play sports. WCBD
- ➤ Beckham beat the rival Wando Warriors 31-14 in the annual Sweetgrass Bowl at District 2 Stadium — Jack Lamonica scored two touchdowns while Finn Gunter and Jaden Gethers also added scores, and the game was briefly delayed when a Wando player hit his head and was taken off by ambulance. This win improved Beckham to 6-3 overall while Wando fell to 4-6. Moultrie News
