- ➤ A Summerville couple remains stranded in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa shut down major airports on the island— they are now waiting for possible flights from Kingston this weekend while their family struggles with spotty communication. WCBD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A.C. Corcoran Elementary School Principal Chris Holbrook accepted a $10,000 donation from Advanced Technology International through its Foundation on Oct 30+ to support the Backpack Buddy Program and provide essential items for students and families+ Deer Park Baptist Church is working with local partners to address food disparity and meet urgent needs. Charleston County School District
- ➤ R.B. Stall High School was named the first-ever Physical Adeptness and Literacy Model Institution Region Winner for the Lowcountry when it received the trophy on October 28—Coach Trevor Macy led the team that raised its physical education standards over four years. The school will be honored at the SCAHPERD Conference in Myrtle Beach from November 14—16 for its innovative approach to student fitness. Charleston County School District
- ➤ On October 26, 2025, the Jennie Moore Elementary Improvement Council hosted a Bike Rodeo where over 100 students rode a safety course with help from MUSC Safe Kids and a Mount Pleasant Police Officer—Christmas Injury Lawyers provided helmets for students who needed them. Students finished the course and received certificates and bike licenses to mark their achievement. Charleston County School District
- ➤ Jerome Wine and Malori Hay were honored with the 212° Award by the school board after their quick work during an October 10th accident at Angel Oak Primary School when a saw injured an employee while cutting concrete (Wine called 911 and applied pressure while Hay used the Stop the Bleed kit until EMS arrived) and Hay handled two more emergencies that week. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Week 10 high school football scores in the Lowcountry showed Lucy Beckham beat Wando 31-14, Stratford defeated Goose Creek 48-0, Philip Simmons won 28-14 over Andrews, and Summerville won 37-14 over Fort Dorchester. Pinewood Prep beat John Paul II 48-28, James Island won 55-0 over Stall, Ashley Ridge won 35-0 against West Ashley, Berkeley beat Cane Bay 35-7 and Hanahan beat Battery Creek 31-21. WCIV
