- ➤ Mount Pleasant's Hibben United Methodist Church had a slow season at its annual pumpkin patch due to heavy rains that forced a two-day closure—soggy pumpkins kept buyers away. All proceeds from the patch will support local nonprofits such as East Cooper Meals on Wheels and Water Mission—the church hopes to meet its funding goals by season's end. WCIV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new exhibit at the International African American Museum will open on Oct. 28 to serve as a national archive of 52 oral history testimonials about slavery’s impact and family heritage. The exhibit is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — donated by the Speaking Truth project as a step toward reconciliation. WCIV

- ➤ Wando High School's yearbook Legend was named Best Yearbook in South Carolina for the fifth time in a row by the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association — its 52nd edition, 'It’s Our Turn,' also set a school record by winning first-place awards in every category submitted. This win marked the sixth time the publication received the honor and highlighted the staff’s talent in student journalism. Charleston County School District

- ➤ Magnolia Landing will host its second community marsh clean up along the Ashley River on Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.—organized by Charleston Waterkeeper, The M.A.R.S.H Project, and Keep Charleston Beautiful—so volunteers can help restore local waterways. WCBD

- ➤ On September 2, 2025, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson honored Detra Young as the first graduate of the Charleston County Drug Court. The program, started in 1998 by Probate Judge Irv Condon, offers a cost-effective pathway for nonviolent offenders with substance abuse issues (focused on rehabilitation and personal responsibility). - ➤ St. Paul’s Fire District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to open its new 11,000 sq ft Fire Station No.2 off Hyde Park Road in Ravenel (replacing an outdated 1,200 sq ft facility built for modern equipment). Three firefighters now staff the station (which fills a coverage gap as the closest station is on Dorchester Road and Highway 61). WCIV
