ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ US Rep. Nancy Mace has proposed turning Monkey Island into a sanctuary for the 4,000 research primates as federal agencies scale back animal testing; animal rights groups (including PETA) want the state to back a plan to protect and retire the primates but officials have not been contacted yet. The Post and Courier
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Gene Brown became the president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Foundation on October 14 and will serve a one-year term leading nearly 13,000 specialists. He is the CEO of Charleston ENT and Allergy in Mount Pleasant and has practiced locally for 25 years—growing his practice to 17 locations across the Lowcountry. Moultrie News
