- ➤ Trident United Way held its third State of Our Families Summit at Trident Technical College on Tuesday—where local leaders reviewed the ALICE report showing nearly 40% of households struggle with basic needs despite full-time work. Organizers announced a goal to help 15,000 families move out of poverty by 2035 and stressed the importance of coordinated long-term change. WCBD

- ➤ Ten Lowcountry hotels were recognized this week with Michelin Guide Keys for their excellent service and design — including Mount Pleasant’s Post House, a historic inn offering patterned wallpaper and a well-rated tavern. - ➤ Charleston County School District received nearly $500,000 from the Public School Districts’ Opioid Recovery Trust to fund programs addressing student substance abuse and family impact—efforts that will include prevention education and extended support services for affected students and staff. - ➤ Mount Pleasant Academy held its first quarter Terrific Kids recognition assembly on October 10—students received a certificate, ice cream coupon and t-shirt for showing good citizenship. - ➤ CCSD Board of Trustees recognized October as National Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month when Heather Anderson presented a resolution to help keep schools safe—today, the district held National Day of Concern activities with a moment of silence—and it also celebrated National School Lunch Week while awarding Jamie Simpson for outstanding operations and honoring DeAndre Ladson along with board members Keith Grybowski and Pam McKinney for their board training achievements. - ➤ Local residents on Sullivan’s Island will join a guided Maritime Forest tour at 2 p.m. Saturday at Station 16 to mark the fifth anniversary of Sullivan’s Island for All and support the effort to preserve the forest as a natural defense against storms and climate change—an issue now under legal challenge that could open the area to oceanfront views. - ➤ HCA Healthcare rebranded over 35 local healthcare sites in Charleston to unify its patient care network—patients will continue receiving the same care from their trusted teams. WCIV
- ➤ HCA Healthcare’s South Atlantic Division will rebrand over 35 care sites in Charleston, including hospitals in Trident, Summerville and Colleton, with new names taking effect in January.
