  • Katie’s Krops celebrated 15 years on Thursday in Summerville by hosting a free community dinner where 700 meals, muffins, bread, produce, and school supplies were provided—continuing a tradition of youth-led farming that began when founder Katie Stagliano donated her first 40-pound cabbage at age 9—showing the nonprofit’s lasting impact in fighting hunger.  WCIV
  • On Oct. 8, longtime Rotary Club members Ed Wyatt and Billy Simmons were celebrated at their meeting at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church—Wyatt maintained perfect attendance for 46 years and Simmons for 39 years—highlighting their dedication to local service. CULTURE NEWS

  • Riverfront Revival is underway at North Charleston’s Riverfront Park as a two-day music festival features over a dozen acts; Friday saw performances by Riley Green and The Red Clay Strays, and today Darius Rucker headlines with Bill Murray—His Blood Brothers and others. Tickets remain available as the festival continues with more local and regional musical acts.  WCBD
  • Boone Hall Fright Nights is hosting its 20th edition and has added The Academy—a new walkthrough school that shows the art of terror. The event runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 27 to Nov. 1 and also features attractions like Phobia Panic Attack and the Deadwoods Haunted Hayride.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The SC Department of Education announced on Oct 10 that applications are open for the Seal of Biliteracy — a credential for CCSD juniors and seniors who meet a 3.0 GPA or 4.4 ACCESS score and exhibit strong proficiency in another language. Last year, 791 students earned the Seal in 14 languages — including Spanish and ASL, making the award a boost for college and career plans.  Charleston County School District

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, a king tide pushed waves onto the dunes of Isle of Palms and under several oceanfront homes—strong onshore winds carried water across access paths and left debris on the sand. Local residents reported notable erosion with damaged stairways and shifted dunes while town leaders continue to monitor beach conditions.  WCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant crews are assessing damage and repairing the boardwalk ramp that connects the Shem Creek boardwalk to the pedestrian bridge after high tides damaged it this week—people are asked to avoid using the ramp until repairs are complete. The remainder of the boardwalk stays open and nearby restaurants and businesses continue operating normally.  WCBD
  • The Town of Mount Pleasant closed the boardwalk ramp connecting the Shem Creek boardwalks to the pedestrian bridge on Oct. 10 because high tide damage was reported—officials said the Public Services Department will assess the damage and make repairs soon. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid this section while the rest of the boardwalk remains open.  WCIV
  • Congresswoman Nancy Mace is urging local banks and credit unions to waive penalties for military families who will miss their October 15th paycheck as the government shutdown enters its 10th day. In Berkeley County, Stacey A. Benson is organizing the ‘Be the Light’ pop-up pantry (accepting nonperishable food and personal care donations at VFW Post 9509 in Moncks Corner) to support these families during this time.  WCBD
