- ➤ The Palmetto Garden Club of Mount Pleasant started its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign this October — the group of 50 women planted pink flowers at Wando Library and shared educational materials with local health centers to remind residents to get regular checkups. A meeting is planned for Oct. 22 at Wando Library where members and guests will wear pink to support the cause. Moultrie News

- ➤ Parker Milner from the Post and Courier investigated how high costs and inconsistent grease trap regulations affected restaurant owners in the Charleston region. He interviewed officials in Mount Pleasant and North Charleston to show that new businesses faced stricter rules than established ones — prompting calls for clearer guidelines. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Charleston County School District has named five employees of the Operations Division as Employees of the Year for 2025, honoring their service in keeping schools safe, efficient and caring. Jamie Simpson from Lucy Beckham High School led a major increase in student meal participation while four others were recognized for their work in transportation, nursing, security and facilities. - ➤ Mount Pleasant Human Resources Committee endorsed the remaining $1.6 million for first responder raises in an Oct. 8 meeting that will give a 4% salary boost and help close the pay gap with neighboring departments—full council will review the proposal on Oct. 14. Moultrie News
- ➤ On October 7, six town council candidates in Mount Pleasant met at a forum hosted by East Cooper Arts Advocates — along with the League of Women Voters—to discuss local arts, affordable housing, Highway 41 upgrades and the use of AI in government. They explained plans to work with county leaders to protect parks and ease traffic as they aimed to improve community services. Moultrie News

- ➤ Minor League Baseball named the RiverDogs the winner of the MiLB Together Award on Oct. 6—recognizing the team for its long track record of community support and a record $100,000 donation to MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital; the team has boosted local causes for over 40 years. - ➤ On April 10 and 11, 2026, the Charleston RiverDogs will host two Banana Ball World Tour games at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park featuring teams Loco Beach Coconuts and Indianapolis Clowns— a new way to play baseball that makes the game fun and fast for fans. A pregame party will start at 3:30 p.m. at Brittlebank Park and tickets will be given out through a lottery until Nov. 1, 2025. WCIV
