  • Boone Hall Fright Nights returns to Boone Hall Plantation this weekend with new haunted houses, midway scares, and hayrides to spur Halloween thrills. Organizers stress that children under 6 are not admitted and children under 12 must be with an adult—tickets must be purchased online.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Charleston County Public Library will host its first Teen Book Sale on Oct. 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Wando Mount Pleasant Library at 1400 Carolina Park Blvd — teens in grades 6 to 12 can shop for a variety of books, donate used books for a free t-shirt, and join a craft activity.  Moultrie News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dangerous tropical weather is raising concerns as Hurricane Humberto, a Category 4 storm with 145 mph winds, moves near the northern Leeward Islands while another system is set to strengthen and approach the Southeast; Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency and crews in Charleston are gathering sandbags and checking pumps ahead of potential heavy rains and flooding. Local officials are preparing for life-threatening surf and rip currents along the coast.  WCBD

  • Local high school sports Week 5 games showed many wins and losses as Woodland lost 6 to 52 to Bishop England and Goose Creek fell 0 to 48 to Summerville; other contests like Berkeley's 54 to 0 win over St. James and Cane Bay's 21 to 28 defeat by Myrtle Beach added to the varied scorecard.  WCBD
