- ➤ Councilmember Gary Visser seeks re-election for one of three Town Council seats on Sullivan’s Island and has launched a multi-phase storm water plan to improve island drainage—he has served since 2021 and brings years of planning expertise from his time on the Planning Commission. - ➤ Mount Pleasant Votes will host a candidate forum at Mount Pleasant Town Hall (100 Ann Edwards Lane) on Oct. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. as local voters get a chance to ask questions before early voting begins on Oct. 20. Moultrie News
- ➤ Gov. Henry McMaster declared a State of Emergency on Friday — ahead of Tropical Disturbance 94L expected to become Tropical Cyclone Imelda — so state agencies can coordinate resources for storm preparations. The emergency order makes local officials eligible for FEMA reimbursement for storm expenses and urges residents to monitor updates for heavy winds, rain, and flooding. WCBD

- ➤ Women in Faith of St. Paul United Methodist Church will host the annual walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 4 at Ravenel Hall + registration costs $20 as doors open at 7:45 a.m. Participants are encouraged to wear pink + support everyone affected by breast cancer. WCBD
- ➤ During hurricane season, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division advises pet owners to prepare an emergency kit with water, food, medication and other supplies for their animals—local officials also stress the importance of using proper identification and checking for pet-friendly shelters when evacuating.
