ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A public celebration of life for Heather Hall will be held today at 1 p.m. in Cistern Yard on the College of Charleston campus—she died on Sept. 3 in a Lisbon streetcar derailment that killed 16 people.  WCIV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Sept. 18, the 15th Annual Mount Pleasant Business and Community EXPO took place at the Omar Shrine Center, where entrepreneurs and non-profits showcased services—ranging from anti-aging treatments to marketing strategies and farm-to-table options. Attendees learned about innovative solutions from businesses such as 4EverYoung, Pollen Social, Passanante’s, and East Coast AP Marketing—boosting local business connections.  Moultrie News
  • Chubby Fish, a dock-to-table restaurant on Coming Street, was named one of the 50 Best Restaurants in America by the New York Times last week, Chef James London said as he credited his team for their hard work. He added that a new cocktail bar, Seahorse, opened in January to serve drinks and small bites to guests waiting in line+the accolade boosts the restaurant’s national profile.  WCBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gibbes Museum of Art will open a new exhibition on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.—displaying 24 new works acquired since last January. The collection spans four centuries and includes works by Reynier Llanes, Edwin Harleston, and Purvis Young, and it will be available to view until Feb. 22, 2026.  WCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trident Technical College President Dr. Vicky Wood spoke on Sept. 10 at the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant to outline programs that will train students for work in hospitals, corporations and government agencies. The college — which produced 171 nursing graduates in 2024 and has a 99.4 percent NCLEX pass rate — is partnering with local schools and MUSC to expand dual enrollment and apprenticeship opportunities.  Moultrie News
  • Charleston County School District launches a new High-Intensity Tutoring program—partners will be paid based on measurable student progress to provide intensive academic support in small group, in-person and virtual sessions. The district expects this approach to boost accountability and accelerate learning for students who need it most.  Charleston County School District

  • Mayor Will Haynie recently hosted a campaign fundraiser at Abbracci Italian Cuisine & Cocktails in Mount Pleasant—attendees heard him discuss his re-election bid for a third term and saw him with supporters such as his wife Suzette, Layla Luna, and restaurant owners Don and Joanne Migliori.  Moultrie News
