COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 15th Annual Mount Pleasant Business & Community Expo will be held on Sept. 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Omar Shrine Center at Patriot's Point, where residents can visit interactive exhibitor booths, attend a job fair, receive health screenings, listen to a live podcast recording and network during happy hour from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with sponsorship from Crews Subaru.  Moultrie News

CRIME NEWS

  • Taco Boy was dismissed from a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Aric Hutchinson over the fatal accident on April 28 in Folly Beach—driver Jamie Komoroski's testimony showed the restaurant did not cause the crash.  The Post and Courier
  • Mount Pleasant police arrested 28-year-old Unique Glover on Tuesday after he allegedly robbed a North Charleston pawn shop by trying on a gold chain and pulling out a firearm when confronted, and he now faces charges for armed robbery & weapon possession.  WCBD
  • The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office charged 22-year-old Javion Mitchell with murdering 19-year-old Cassius Grays outside a North Charleston home on May 19—evidence from his phone and surveillance footage proved his alibi inconsistent.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilmember John Iacofano, a local business owner elected in 2021, is running for a second term on Mount Pleasant Town Council as one of nine candidates for four seats this November. He highlighted his work on government transparency—such as posting Town financial transactions online—and stressed the need to manage growth responsibly while supporting public safety.  Moultrie News
  • U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act on Tuesday to require the Department of Defense to purchase only American-caught seafood—aiming to protect local shrimpers—and the measure will be debated today in Congress.  WCIV
