  • Drawing Near to God, a Mount Pleasant ministry led by Joanne Ellison, connects women through Bible study, prayer and small groups—partnering with Life Resources and Palmetto Women’s Collective to provide counseling and leadership training. The ministry will host its Taste & See luncheon at St. Andrew’s Church on Sept. 11 to introduce the Making Space for God program.  Moultrie News

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sept 4, a resident on Marginal Road off N. Highway 17 returned home to find a 9mm firearm, Louis Vuitton wallet, 32-inch TV and a safe with cash and credit cards missing, with his bar cart turned over and a back door left unlocked while officers investigate after a truck was seen circling the block.  Moultrie News
  • On Sept. 4, a man was robbed at Lowes Foods on Hwy. 41 after a $500 transaction for Nike Dunks went wrong when an accomplice pointed a gun at his chest—police arrested two suspects after reviewing a video recorded by his fiancée.  Moultrie News
  • The U.S. Coast Guard stopped an illegal bareboat charter on the Wando River when a 26-foot vessel carried too many passengers — officials said crews will continue working with law enforcement to shut down similar operations.  WCBD
  • Video captured a masked burglar entering a Mount Pleasant home on Sept. 5 while the family slept upstairs—homeowner Alex Skatell called 911 at 6 a.m. and police later arrived, though the suspect remains at large.  The Post and Courier
  • Mount Pleasant police arrested Henry Robinson and Marvin Pressley for an armed robbery at Lowes Foods on Highway 41 on Sept. 4 at about 4:56 p.m.—Robinson was charged with robbery and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon while Pressley faced additional charges for weapon possession during a violent crime.  WCIV
  • Mount Pleasant police arrested Henry Derrick Robinson and Marvin Angelo Pressley on Thursday after they reportedly robbed a man at gunpoint during a shoe sale at Lowes Foods on Highway 41—officers later responded to a burglary at the victim’s home where a safe and flat-screen TV were stolen as investigators check if the crimes are linked.  WCBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ten Mile Community is asking Charleston County Council and the town of Mount Pleasant for custom regulations and a building moratorium—measures that will limit new homes to one per acre in rural areas and three per acre in suburban areas—to protect its Gullah-Geechee heritage amid growing development. The county planning commission will meet Monday to discuss the proposal while local leaders back the effort.  WCBD
