COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Charleston-area Arby's team has selected Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) as the recipient of a $28,600 grant to support healthy food distributions at school markets in 10 coastal counties. The grant (targeting youth nutrition) will ensure access to fresh produce, meat, and dairy.  Moultrie News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Mount Pleasant Police Department, Charleston Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriffs Office enforced traffic laws on the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on August 28 and issued 50 tickets—21 for speeding, 13 for seat belt violations and 16 for equipment violations.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lowcountry Literacy Project and Charleston County School District have partnered to expand literacy support by bringing Orton-Gillingham training and yearlong coaching to Title 1 Elevation Schools—Matilda F. Dunston Elementary and Ladson Elementary—for the 2025–2026 school year. The initiative, which builds on improvements seen at other schools, saw training begin in August to help teachers boost reading outcomes.  Charleston County School District
  • On August 27th, Military Magnet Academy cadets experienced a hands-on aviation training mission aboard a C-17 Globemaster III at Joint Base Charleston—where they learned landing maneuvers and observed cockpit operations; the school was chosen for this opportunity from over 128 applicants, giving the cadets real insight into military aviation. This experience supports the academy's focus on leadership, citizenship, and character development.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Curt Thomas—a US Air Force officer, TEDx speaker, and local father—is running against incumbent Mayor Will Haynie in the Nov. 4 election to bring responsible growth, better public safety, and improved housing to Mount Pleasant. He also vows to work with developers to balance smart development with conservation and reduce traffic impacts.  Moultrie News
  • South Carolina residents can now add a transfer on death designation to vehicle titles—this new estate planning tool helps families avoid probate. Drivers must complete the TOD—1 form, Form 400, and pay a $15 fee while all current owners agree for the change to take effect.  Moultrie News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Maurice Drayton previewed the Citadel season opener against North Dakota State Bison on Good Morning Charleston—he said the team is set to take the field at noon Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium with an expected crowd of 10,000. The game marks a chance for the team to revive the success they enjoyed in past years.  WCIV
