  • Summer campers at Chesterbrook Academy Preschool in Mount Pleasant raised over $500 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston by holding a bake sale+lemonade stand that taught them the importance of giving back and supporting local children’s health programs.  Moultrie News

  • On Aug. 18, police said a man in his 60s exposed himself to a customer sitting on the outside deck at Metto Coffee—after being confronted he apologized and fled, and officers identified him using the store's cash transaction record while awaiting new video evidence.  Moultrie News
  • Eighteen men involved in a North Charleston drug trafficking ring were sentenced to a collective 144 years in federal prison after a February 2022 wiretap investigation led to charges for drug and firearms violations—details show one man managed operations from an abandoned community center while others faced sentences based on their roles.  WCIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wando Mount Pleasant Library launched its podcast, What’s Up at Wando? in January and it has shared library resources and staff interviews for six months — the show has featured topics like makerspaces and Sensory Storytime. The podcast will offer new episodes on a day in the life of a librarian and language learning, and the library invites locals to send in their own stories.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michael Calvary Frame of Mount Pleasant graduated Magna Cum Laude from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point—he earned a Bachelor of Science, a commission in the US Armed Forces, and a Merchant Marine officer license. The Wando High School graduate was nominated by Senator Tim Scott and is set to serve on ships.  Moultrie News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are hosting the 36th annual Beach Sweep on Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cannon Row on Poe Avenue near Fort Moultrie—volunteers must bring gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, and water bottles and RSVP by Sept. 13.  Moultrie News

  • Charleston County School District received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association, making it the largest public agency in SC to earn this honor.
