CRIME NEWS

  • The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is seeking new leads in a seven-year-old cold case on Edisto Island after 43-year-old Tina Diana Snipes was last seen on Aug. 15 at a Horizon EZ Shop on 2410 Highway 174—detectives report that suspicious circumstances remain since no arrests have been made.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Aug 15, Charleston County School District reported increased enrollment at the Cooper River, East Cooper, and West Ashley Centers for Advanced Studies. Dr. Rich Gordon said the West Ashley and Cooper River centers saw growth of 45–50% and the East Cooper center grew 15%—CTE programs help prepare students for college, career, or military paths.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the Aug 12 Town Council meeting, Mount Pleasant honored police chief Mark Arnold for 30 years of service and awarded officer Angela Mitchell and employee Edward Gaillard for 25 years each. Arnold, who was shot on duty in 1996, led community policing efforts — and Gaillard drives trucks that pick up over 5000 trash containers weekly.  Moultrie News
  • A procession honoring fallen South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks took place Friday morning as law enforcement and fire crews lined I-26 during his transport from Charleston to Newberry. The trooper—who was struck by a box truck during a traffic stop in Orangeburg County on Aug. 10—succumbed to his injuries.  WCIV
