CRIME NEWS

  • Detectives from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office are asking the public to help locate two trailers stolen on July 31 from ChuckTown Trailers in Ravenel and a beat-up black Ford F-150 with multiple dents—believed to be the suspects' vehicle used in a fraudulent online purchase.  WCIV

  • Southern Screams returns to Holy City Brewing with its fourth annual event featuring the new haunted attraction IMMORTAL and an exclusive Club AMP—activities will run from Friday, September 26 through November 8 with special ticket options and extra experiences available.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher-librarian Fred Corson at Wando High School was notified of his selection as a recipient of the 2025 PSTA Classroom Grant while assisting students in the school library—he will use the grant to buy supplies such as stickers, pens, candy and bookmarks as prizes for the Ravenous Reader Award and to launch grade-level reading competitions that promote reading engagement.  Charleston County School District

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local advocacy groups have warned that plastic pellets, called nurdles, continue to contaminate local waters. The pellets—first noted in 2019 and found along the Cooper River to Edisto Beach—soak up toxins that threaten wildlife (Andrew Wunderly of Charleston Waterkeeper urged companies to be held accountable).  WCIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina governor Henry McMaster plans to ban soda and candy from SNAP, which supports over 580,000 people. If approved with a federal waiver, the move will start early next year and critics say it might hurt rural areas with limited food options — raising concerns over healthy food access.  WCIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Alan Shao lost his son to a fentanyl overdose and started Alan II’s Legacy to teach young people about the drug’s dangers and the importance of Narcan. The nonprofit will host a golf tournament on May 18th, 2026 to raise funds for recovery—helping families tackle addiction.  WCBD
