- ➤ The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant launches its annual 2025 Football Fundraiser, where locals can buy a 40-dollar booklet with a unique number for each of 12 games+ matching the final score wins a 100-dollar prize while all proceeds fund community projects like free shoes, backpacks, dictionaries, scholarships and local aid. - ➤ Patience Spinler was charged with murder after a July 19 shooting on Calais Drive—police said the victim was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head and the investigation remains ongoing. WCIV
- ➤ The Charleston County Coroner named Herbert Dawson Jr, a 47-year-old man from North Charleston, as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run on Rivers Avenue near Piggly Wiggly Drive on Aug. 5 at about 1:45 a.m.—police are still investigating after the driver fled. WCIV

- ➤ Buxton Books and The Club at Wild Dunes host a literary pool party today at Wild Dunes Swim Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — Families with young and middle grade readers can join a book signing by George Brewington, enjoy a bounce house, poolside games, themed snacks, and a guest appearance by Angela May while each ticket includes a copy of The Girl Who Built a Spider. - ➤ Northwoods Middle School was named one of America’s Healthiest Schools on Aug 8th by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation+ it is the only school in our district to earn the honor and one of four statewide to certify in all nine health areas, which include social-emotional health and physical education+ the award shows the school’s strong commitment to whole child wellness. - ➤ State health officials said a person and a dog were exposed to a rabid raccoon discovered near Dogwood Road and Becky Road; the animal was tested on August 5 and confirmed rabid on August 6— the person was referred for care while the dog will be quarantined under state law. WCBD

- ➤ Today, dog owners in Mount Pleasant can attend Dog Days at Splash Island Waterpark where dogs swim off-leash while owners follow safety rules; ticket prices are $15 per dog in advance + $20 on-site, and park admission is $2.
