Residents at a Monday meeting strongly opposed the College of Charleston’s plans to build a dormitory on a historic burial ground that holds the remains of about 4,000 Africans — college officials said construction will begin in 2027 with students moving in by 2028 and a follow-up meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22.

Residents of Toler’s Cove have raised safety concerns after witnessing a serious accident on the Ben Sawyer Boulevard bike path where a cyclist collided with a car and left a woman injured—town officials said the South Carolina Department of Transportation is working on changes to slow bicycles coming off the Ben Sawyer Bridge and reduce risks for neighborhood residents and newcomers near the marina with updates expected at next month’s transportation meeting.

The Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston County School District and Trident Technical College celebrated the launch of a new four-year health science program at Early College High School today.
