Good morning, Mount Pleasant.
🏘️ Community
After years abroad, Kristin Parker launched Shared City so local nonprofits can work together to boost community impact in Charleston.
The nonprofit plans to transform a vacant building on McMillian Avenue into a community hub with collaborative workspaces — a coffee shop and patio included.
Friends of Faison gathered community input to preserve green space and promote local uses on 38 acres along Faison Road near Park Bend.
Local leaders and residents voiced opposition to generic commercial projects during a Special Town Council meeting on Aug. 3 & the community awaits further development plans.
🏛️ Government
Mount Pleasant officials approved a $119,076 project to upgrade 24 traffic signals on major intersections like US Highway 17 and key local roads — the new four-section yellow signal heads will replace the older design to ease left turns and cut idling, with Kimley-Horn scheduled for about 150 days.
🏈 Sports
South Carolina’s college baseball community mourned Jim Toman, a key recruiter and mentor, who died Tuesday morning after a two-year battle with brain cancer.
His influence on teams in Columbia and Raleigh, as well as his memorable humor (especially among former players), marks a lasting legacy on the sport.
