One direction of the Wando Bridge on Interstate 526 was closed Monday evening after a collision left extensive debris on the westbound lanes — Mount Pleasant Police Department urged drivers to use alternate routes.

In colonial Charles Town, merchants on East Bay and Elliott streets welcomed licensed privateers until privateers became pirates after Queen Anne’s War ended, turning looting into a threat to trade.

Local leaders arrested many pirates by 1718 and sentenced most to hang along the waterfront—marking the end of an era for the town.

The Mount Pleasant Tree Task Force met on July 28 to review plans for protecting the town’s trees under the Community Forest Master Plan.
