CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A federal grand jury indicted Brandon Brill, a 26-year-old babysitter from Moncks Corner who worked in Mount Pleasant+ and other local areas, on 10 charges for sexually extorting and abusing at least six children from June 2023 until his arrest in February, with his first federal court appearance set for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4 in Charleston. - ➤ North Charleston police stopped a home invasion on Honeylocust Lane in Ladson on July 22 when two men forced entry while a 16-year-old girl was home alone—Derome Octavio Brooks, 20, and Delaney Jemani Terrell Walker, 19, were arrested and are charged with first-degree burglary and weapon possession. - ➤ The Old Growth Forest Network declared Angel Oak and 44 acres of surrounding land a community forest, and Lowcountry Land Trust officials said the preserve will be expanded next year—protecting the tree’s cultural and natural importance.
