  • The FBI warns South Carolina residents that scammers are calling with fake FBI numbers—like the one for the FBI Columbia Field Office—to claim missed jury duty or warrants and trick people into sending money or personal details—officials advise hanging up and checking numbers independently as some victims have already lost thousands of dollars.  WCIV
  • A driver who may have been under the influence hit another car on Ben Sawyer Boulevard and Center Street on July 19 and fled the scene before police located her near Royall Ace Hardware — she smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests — and arrested her for DUI 1st, open container, and driving without a license while she was taken to East Cooper Medical Center for a check.  Moultrie News

  • FishingBooker released its 2025 ranking of the best fishing states and South Carolina fell from fifth place last year to outside the top 10—its recommendation score dropped from 9 to 8, angler ratings from 7 to 4, and affordability from 6 to 4. Vukan Simic said the state remains a popular fishing destination due to its diverse waters.  Moultrie News

  • Charleston County School District launched the new FirstView bus-tracking app that gives parents live GPS tracking and distance-based notifications—parents need a bus route number and registration code to sign up.  WCIV

  • The FBI warned that scammers are using fake law enforcement calls to steal money from residents in South Carolina. Nearly 300 people reported falling for the fraud from January 1 to June 18, losing $1.7 million — officials say you should verify any suspicious call directly with the proper agency.  WCBD
  • South Carolina’s 2025 Tax Free Weekend will run Friday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 3 and will let local families buy school supplies, computers, clothes and other essentials without paying sales tax—officials confirmed the exemption applies to additional items like shoes.  WCIV
