BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo Wild Wings opened on Thursday at 715 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard, giving Mount Pleasant a new spot for chicken wings. The restaurant employs 60 people and operates from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday — and until midnight from Thursday to Sunday while offering delivery and catering services.  WCBD
  • The Insurance Institute for Business (IBHS) in the Lowcountry is testing roof durability by shooting lab-made hail at shingles and using field studies (ICECHIP) to collect real hail data. The research will help local homeowners delay roof replacements by building more resilient roofs against future storms.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership launched its first Junior Fellowship Program with a five-day boot camp held at St. John’s High School in Charleston County from July 14 to today for 27 students who learned leadership, character education, and community service under Medal of Honor recipients. The program will continue with monthly leadership challenges + virtual meet-ups from August through April, ending with a capstone presentation in April.  Charleston County School District
  • Charleston County School District said on Jul 17 that veteran educator George White has been named principal at Liberty Hill Academy—he served as interim principal at Morningside Middle School and brings nearly 20 years of experience in education.  Charleston County School District
  • Trident Technical College announced that Tanisha Seraphin and Richard Liu were selected to join the inaugural 'Becoming a Data Champion' cohort, joining 37 other professionals who took part in virtual workshops held in June and July to build data skills + strengthen student outcomes. The program, sponsored by the Association for Institutional Research and Advance CTE’s Postsecondary Data Quality Initiative, is designed to help faculty and staff use data more effectively.  Moultrie News
  • School officials announced that 12 teams will compete in the Dave Spurlock CCSD Football Jamboree on Aug 15 at Wildcat Stadium at West Ashley High School—tickets cost $8 per person and proceeds will benefit all participating schools.  WCIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant Environmental division received a $4,500 grant to boost local composting workshops after participation in Charleston Composts dropped in 2025. The funding will help meet a goal of composting 250 tons of food scraps by year-end and support events at designated drop-off sites (James B. Edwards Park, Park West Recreation Complex, and Jones Center Recreation Complex).  Moultrie News

  • A new study from the Justice Innovation Lab showed that Charleston prosecutors saved over $400,000 and cut jail time by 15 days on average by screening weak cases for low-level misdemeanors — a move that did not hurt public safety and may expand to Berkeley County.  The Post and Courier

  • Mount Pleasant Towne Centre will host South Carolina’s Tax Free Weekend from Aug. 1—3 for back to school shopping by parents, students and teachers. Over 70 stores including national brands and local favorites will offer clothing, footwear and supplies at tax free prices.  Moultrie News
