COMMUNITY NEWS

  • East Cooper Community Outreach announced that its second annual charity tournament, The Big Dill, will be held on Oct. 4 in Summerville at The Pickle Bar—a nine-court pickleball facility. The tournament features doubles play for all skill levels at a cost of $60 per player or $120 per team, and all proceeds will support ECCO's aid for local neighbors in need.  Moultrie News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mt. Pleasant Seafood and the South Carolina Shrimpers Association agreed on a resolution of all claims in the 'shrimpgate' issue on Thursday. The agreement applies only to Mt. Pleasant Seafood—other businesses remain involved in ongoing legal matters.  WCIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant Town Council endorsed a Senate bill resolution on July 8 to restrict certain pesticides after several birds died from rodenticide exposure — council members visited the Birds of Prey Center in Awendaw to gather evidence of the harm.  Moultrie News
  • Mount Pleasant Town Council met on July 8 and voted 9-1 against a $160 million plan to widen Highway 41 by building a road through Laurel Hill Park—residents worry that trees and marshes will be lost. Councilmembers said residents were not included in the compromise—calling for the county to work with them on future plans.  Moultrie News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Starlight Yoga returns to Charleston County Parks this year and invites Lowcountry residents to enjoy all abilities yoga sessions under the stars led by a local instructor. A session took place on July 10 at Folly Beach County Park and future classes will be held on September 11 at Mount Pleasant Piero, October 16 at Wannamaker County Park, and November 10 at James Island County Park — registration is available online for $12 and on site for $14.  WCIV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Charleston RiverDogs secured their first walk off win of 2025 by defeating the Columbia Fireflies 5 to 4 in 11 innings on July 9 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. A mishandled grounder allowed the winning run to score—3,075 fans witnessed the dramatic finish that tied the series and evened the team’s second half record.  WCIV
