  • The David and Nicole Tepper Foundation announced grants—over $10 million in total—to support 10 partner food banks across North and South Carolina, including Lowcountry Food Bank, amid rising food insecurity and funding cuts. Lowcountry Food Bank will use the funds to buy protein, dairy and produce while the foundation will allocate increased annual grants for calendar year 2026 to help meet local needs.  Moultrie News

CRIME NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant police arrested a man on June 26 at about 9:45 p.m. at Venning Road and North Highway 17 after he drove erratically, failed standardized sobriety tests and became combative when stopped — he was charged with DUI 1st, Resisting Arrest and given a courtesy summons for carrying a jar of plant-like material.  Moultrie News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On June 20, Netflix announced that filming for the final season of Outer Banks is underway in the Lowcountry—with cast and crew filming in Mount Pleasant at spots like Shem Creek, Old Village and Pitt Street—and the series is set to debut on Netflix in 2026.  WCBD
  • Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben will join a pre-festival event at the Gaillard Center in Charleston on October 21 to discuss their new thriller, Gone Before Goodbye. Attendees will get a free copy of the book and VIP ticket buyers will receive a signed edition and a photo opportunity—tickets are on sale now.  WCBD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dominion Energy is urging customers to save energy by setting thermostats to 78 degrees, using fans, checking air filters, and adjusting drapes as temperatures rise this summer. The company offers help—such as low-income assistance, EnergyShare, and flexible payment plans—for those who need it online or via the mobile app.  Moultrie News

HEALTH NEWS

  • MUSC has started a mobile lab that brings TMS, a safe depression treatment that uses magnets (to help the brain work normally), to patients within 90 minutes of Charleston free of charge. The mobile unit already helped one patient and was funded by a donor called van Hope (to give hope to people struggling with depression), and MUSC will soon decide if more vans will be added.  WCIV
