A fishing tournament honoring legendary captain David Redd kicks off today in Charleston’s offshore waters to raise funds for the South Carolina Memorial Reef— a man-made habitat for marine life.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie announced on Monday that he will seek re-election in November’s municipal election—he launched his campaign with a social media video on June 23 that highlighted his efforts to rein in overdevelopment, restrict short-term rentals, and protect local green space by fighting excessive new home construction in the Highway 41 corridor.

Charleston's Redd Reef Offshore Open fishing tournament, held in memory of Captain David Redd, begins today and runs through June 28 at four local marinas—Bohicket, Edisto, Ripley Light and Toler’s Cove—with funds raised supporting the South Carolina Memorial Reef.
