COMMUNITY NEWS

  • East Cooper Community Outreach unveiled a multi-million dollar expansion at its Six Mile Road facility on Monday—adding nearly three thousand square feet to combine its clothing closet, dental clinics, and medical clinics to better serve the community. The nonprofit received a million-dollar donation and continued serving hundreds of clients while completing a five-year project.  WCIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At the June 17 meeting, the Mount Pleasant GREEN Commission discussed plans to remove invasive species and plant trees across town. Commission President David Quick proposed working with scout troops and local groups — an effort supported by members including Mary Conley, who suggested involving students at Shem Creek — to coordinate cleanup and planting projects.  Moultrie News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Golf cart owners in Mount Pleasant and Isle of Palms are adjusting to a new state law that mandates proper registration, insurance, and seat belts for children under 12—police have already issued warnings and citations over the past month. With the Fourth of July parade coming up soon, authorities warned that noncompliant carts will be turned away from the event.  WCIV
  • Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie announced Monday he is seeking another term — planning to limit 1,000 new homes along Highway 41 and curb expansion into Laurel Hill Park — to protect the town's character. He was first elected in 2017 and now asks residents for support in upcoming statehouse sessions.  WCIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Carolina EMS is urging residents to drink water and seek shade as the heat wave raises temperatures dangerously high; nearly 4,400 heat-related emergencies were reported in 2024 (early signs like a dry mouth and dizziness call for prompt care) and quick action can help prevent severe illness.  WCIV

  • The South Carolina Stingrays announced new head coach and director of hockey operations David Warsofsky Monday—he served as a coaching advisor last season and brings extensive AHL, NHL, and overseas experience to lead the team in the upcoming 2025-26 season starting in October.  WCIV
