  • Popular fast-casual Mediterranean chain Taziki’s will return to Mount Pleasant at its new Indigo Square location around July 15—its outlet will feature a 1,688 square foot space, a large outdoor patio, and dedicated shelves for to-go orders.  Moultrie News

CRIME NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant police arrested a Hispanic man on June 15 after complaints that his black Toyota Tundra blocked traffic along N. Hwy 17 and Long Point Road while he slept at the wheel and failed field sobriety tests + he admitted drinking five Coronas and refused a breath sample, which led to a DUI 1st charge and license suspension.  Moultrie News
  • A high-speed chase began just before 7 p.m. when police tried to stop a driver speeding on Helm Avenue and the pursuit led to a minor collision on Maggie Road in Mount Pleasant—then the suspect fled into a wooded area and evaded capture—authorities said.  WCIV

  • South Carolina is set to receive nearly $73 million from a multi-billion-dollar settlement with Purdue Pharma — a deal that will fund addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery — over the next 15 years. The funds are part of a larger effort to address the opioid crisis linked to aggressive marketing of OxyContin.  WCBD
  • Ten years after the Mother Emanuel Church shooting that left nine dead, organizations statewide are urging lawmakers to pass a gun safety bill—one that would close the Charleston loophole allowing buyers to receive firearms before background checks finish. Angela Ferrel-Zabala from Moms Demand Action said lawmakers must act fast to prevent further tragedies.  WCIV

  • Dr. David Theobald of Theobald Family Chiropractic was named the official chiropractor for the Charleston Battery Soccer team for the 25th year—he will treat players before home matches and in his Mount Pleasant office.
