- ➤ Woodfield Development and Kids On Point unveiled a new staircase linking Morrison Yard to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge pedestrian and bike path. District Four Councilmember Robert Mitchell and local residents attended the event which is expected to boost access between downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant—officials say more improvements are planned. - ➤ North Charleston Police Department said 21-year-old Deshaun Brown Jr from Goose Creek died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 52 on June 8 just before 11:30 p.m.—investigators are probing the fatal accident. WCIV

- ➤ Lakeith Duncan, 39, died at a home on Ferguson Road on Sunday from a gunshot wound after an argument with relative Raymundo Markal Vasquez (who was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm). WCBD
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Rocky Magwood, a fourth-generation shrimper on Shem Creek, had trouble on shrimp season's opening day, June 2nd, when red algae clogged his nets and he caught only 15 shrimp; biologists from SCDNR identified the algae as red and said storms may have dislodged it—currents should soon disperse the nuisance so shrimpers can work in their normal waters. - ➤ Mount Pleasant Town Council met on June 10 to discuss a moratorium on large-scale development in historic settlement communities and approved an ordinance to temporarily pause new subdivision applications in Hamlin Beach, Ten Mile, and the Phillips Community — council members will study the proposal further and provide regular progress reports during planning sessions later this summer. - ➤ Local law enforcement in Charleston said they will act swiftly on Saturday, June 14 if any protest turns violent during the 'No Kings' demonstrations. Both the police and sheriff’s office stress that while peaceful protest is a right, anyone breaking the law will be arrested—and order will be maintained. WCIV
