  • The Greater Goodwill AME Church will host its inaugural Food Truck Rodeo on June 26 (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at its church grounds (2818 Highway 17 N) in Mount Pleasant; the event will feature local food trucks and fresh produce from Freeman Farms as the church seeks to unite the community with food, fellowship and family-friendly fun.  WCIV
  • At a June 4 meeting, the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant supported Wando All Sports Booster Club by giving Athletic Director Mark Buchman a $500 check — he said the donation reinforces their partnership on the annual Soccer Classic.  Moultrie News

  • Mount Pleasant leaders invested $3M in a year-long renovation of the Shem Creek shrimp dock (expected to finish by June 10). Seafood business owners say the safer, expanded dock (which will include an updated shrimp processing facility) will boost local operations.  WCIV

  • An employee at a Mount Pleasant smoke shop—29-year-old Giovani Reyes Lopez—was arrested Saturday and faces charges of voyeurism after he allegedly used his phone to record up-skirt videos of female customers at Smoker Friendly on Ben Sawyer Boulevard.  WCIV
  • Mount Pleasant police arrested a 29-year-old man on May 31 at Smoker Friendly on Ben Sawyer Boulevard after a woman reported he secretly filmed her, and his phone held hundreds of videos showing women in private moments—he is now in custody with an ICE hold while the investigation continues.  WCBD
  • Juan Saul Rico Pacheco, 28, died from a head gunshot at Trident Medical Center on May 24 after a parking lot dispute with his off-duty Mount Pleasant officer partner who said he had abused her for years—police report the stolen gun used was reported missing in November 2021.  The Post and Courier

  • Today at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, artists recycle trash into art for the CONTEXTURE show at Circular Congregational Church, running from 5—9 p.m. The exhibit features works made from restaurant waste and other recycled materials that highlight creative ways to use what is thrown away.  The Post and Courier

  • The Sport Fishing Championship is coming to Shem Creek this week as top international teams will compete for over $180,000 in prize money + the nation’s largest blue marlin live-release jackpot of $20,000. Local and regional fishermen will also get a chance to fish against the pros and support marine conservation with proceeds from the Championship Shop.  WCIV
