  • Lowcountry Food Bank is partnering with the Summer Break Cafe to offer free meals to children 18 and under. The eight-week program begins on June 9—serving meals at accessible sites like day camps, parks, public libraries and faith-based organizations.  Moultrie News

CRIME NEWS

  • Moncks Corner police arrested Christopher Lee Howell, 43, after he allegedly shot and chased his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend around a Publix lot on June 2 — his Dodge Charger overturned and caught fire during the pursuit.  The Post and Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College of Charleston froze tuition for in-state full-time undergraduates for fall at $6,259 per semester — a decision approved by the Board on June 2 — while out-of-state tuition increased 1.45% to $19,192 per semester. Graduate tuition will be set by program as the college supports affordable education with help from a $65 million state higher education budget.  WCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant is considering updating its e-bike ordinance amid safety concerns as police reported 79 bike incidents in the last five months. Town leaders will review proposals at the next council meeting and may require e-bike registration, stricter sidewalk guidelines, and enforcement of a 10 mph limit for juveniles—ensuring that riders following state law are not penalized.  WCBD

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Public Health has advised residents to remove standing water and tip over objects that hold water + change water in pet bowls and bird baths to reduce mosquito breeding as summer begins. The agency also partners with the CDC to monitor mosquito populations and alert local programs when disease risks appear.  WCIV
