  • Michael Gaston was sworn in as the first African American district president of the South Carolina Exchange Club at an annual convention on Isle of Palms—marking a historic milestone. CULTURE NEWS

  • Local authors including Deanna Cochrane, Patty Wolford, Mark Schaper, Nadia Schaper, Kem Welch and Peter B. Cotton will host Summer Book Bash at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre Barnes and Noble on June 8 from noon to 4 p.m.—the event will feature children-themed book signings such as Little Turtle's Kiawah Island Journey and the fourth book in the Blue Pearl Series.  Moultrie News

  • On Saturday, local progressive organizers rallied in downtown Charleston—protesting government overreach and billionaire control while speaking against what they described as fascist actions affecting community rights; the event, led by the Lowcountry Solidarity Network, drew dozens and saw a strong police presence.  WCIV
  • Mount Pleasant Police announced new rules for golf cart use on public roads as summer begins. Drivers must be at least 16 with a valid driver’s license, and carts must be DMV-registered—displaying permit decals, proof of insurance, and required documents while operating during daylight on secondary roads within four miles of the registered address; passengers under 12 must wear seatbelts.  Moultrie News
