  • The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant led an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup on May 24 starting at Lucy Beckham High School on Mathis Ferry Road and extending to Bowman Road; volunteers collected trash such as old election signage, bottles, cardboard and food packaging — an effort to keep local streets pristine.  Moultrie News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A bicyclist was hit and killed on May 22 along Long Point Rd near the I-526 interchange in Mount Pleasant and was identified as 33-year-old Mackensey Griffiths who died about one hour after the crash at a local hospital, with police investigating the incident.  The Post and Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mamie Whitesides Elementary uses the Kiwanis International Terrific Kids program to honor students with certificates, coupons, and t-shirts each quarter, with support from sponsors including Blue Cross/Blue Shield + Blue Choice + Ye Ole Fashioned Ice Cream. The school also named third-grade teacher Chandler Yoder as Teacher of the Year, and Kiwanis meets on the first and third Tuesday.  Moultrie News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Charleston Waterkeeper reported high bacteria levels were found in several popular waterways including Northbridge Park and Hobcaw Creek, which may risk swimmers’ health this Memorial Day weekend. In Mount Pleasant, swimmers are advised to avoid Hobcaw Creek and the Shem Creek north of Coleman Boulevard—while The Cove will be a safe option for water activities.  WCBD
