- ➤ Summerville Police are asking the public to help find 14-year-old Amaya Mack, who was last seen on Ladson Road on May 16 at 6:20 p.m.—she has black hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on her left wrist and was wearing Christmas pajamas, a grey hoodie, and Crocs. WCIV
- ➤ Mount Pleasant police are investigating a May 17 burglary on Royalist Road where $1,000 worth of power tools were stolen after a plumber discovered the back door was kicked in while the homeowners were away — the couple plans to press charges though no security footage is available. - ➤ Jeffrey McWhorter (63) of Mount Pleasant was sentenced to five years of probation (with 12 months of home confinement with electronic monitoring) and ordered to pay $75,198 in restitution, a $4,000 fine, and complete 300 hours of community service for his role in an honest service fraud conspiracy after pleading guilty in December. - ➤ A new South Carolina law bans the sale of the herb kratom to anyone under 21 and requires stores to label each product with its ingredients and where it was made. Stores that do not follow the law will face fines up to $1,000 for a first offense and up to $2,000 for repeat offenses + state lawmakers say the measure is meant to protect young people. WCBD
- ➤ Today, CARTA held a press conference to launch its fifth season of the free Beach Reach shuttle service that will take riders from Mount Pleasant Towne Centre to the Isle of Palms—buses will run hourly on Saturdays and Sundays from May 24 through August 21. WCBD

- ➤ Sharon Bridges, a thyroid cancer patient in Mount Pleasant, lost her Medicaid benefits on May 1 after nearly 30 years on coverage + the loss puts her life-saving treatments and tests at risk.
