- ➤ East Cooper Habitat for Humanity is boosting affordable housing by offering low-income families a zero percent, 30-year mortgage with payments ($1,000 monthly) and a 30-year occupancy rule. The nonprofit detailed two builds underway and plans for four new homes on Tower Drive near Wando High School at a recent Rotary Club meeting. Moultrie News

- ➤ Charleston Wine + Food revived its Summer Sizzle series for 2026 with 15 culinary events scheduled from June through August. Tickets went on sale May 19 and include chef dinners+bar takeovers+cooking classes across local venues. WCIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Lucy Beckham High School orchestra earned the South Carolina Music Education Association Outstanding Performance Award (Senior Gold) for the 2025-2026 school year. Director Melissa Martin will be honored with a trophy during the SCMEA Fall Business Meeting at the start of the school year. Charleston County School District
- ➤ On May 18, the CCSD Board approved its FY2027 budget, boosting employee pay, early learning, and special education measures with details available through a new online budget book (a transparency portal). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lowcountry Red Cross, Charleston County Emergency Management and over 60 nonprofits have formed the VOAD team (June 1 to Nov. 30) to coordinate a hurricane season relief plan for the community.
