- ➤ On May 15, the Town of Mount Pleasant renamed Town Hall Gym as the Debbie Antonelli Gymnasium to honor her achievements in sports media and community service. Mayor Will Haynie and the Town Council made the announcement to recognize her support for the Special Olympics and local families. WCIV

- ➤ A new warning sign written in Spanish has been installed at Breach Inlet to warn people against swimming or wading and risking a fine after two individuals (18-year-old Yoselin Lopez-Perez and 28-year-old cook Guillermo Quintero-Camacho) were rescued and later pronounced dead. WCIV

- ➤ East Cooper Montessori Charter School received the News 2 Cool School award for innovative teaching and community engagement. The public charter school—now in its 22nd year—serves students from preschool to 8th grade while blending Montessori methods with hands-on STEM and arts learning. WCBD
- ➤ The Charleston County School District named veteran leader Brion Rutherford as principal of Baptist Hill High School, effective July 1, as his record shows over 25 years of boosting student achievement and school culture. A Meet and Greet will be held on Wednesday, June 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the Baptist Hill Media Center—families can meet Rutherford alongside Superintendent Anita Huggins and Baptist Hill Middle School Principal Kevin Smith. - ➤ On Monday at 5:15 p.m., Charleston County School District will host a public meeting at its headquarters to review a 312-page budget and set priorities for fiscal year 2026, including teacher pay and ESSER funding.
