- ➤ Explore Charleston released its 2025 Economic Impact of Tourism report showing tourism generated $14.35 billion, the highest ever recorded; the report noted a 2.3% increase from 2024 with record airport traffic of 6.34 million passengers and 55,500 industry jobs, all driven by a focus on high-value visits. - ➤ At the May 13 Rotary Club meeting, past and present scholarship recipients shared personal journeys. 2026 honoree Nyssa Evangeline Kuonen will attend USC; last year's winner Charlotte Genevieve Hill studies at Rhodes College (Rotary President Ken Tallmadge explained scholarships start at $1,500 and increase with GPA). - ➤ Four CCSD seniors from Academic Magnet and Wando were named as National Merit Scholarship finalists, each receiving a $2,500 award announced on May 14 (they are the only public school recipients in the Tri-County and Lowcountry).
