  • The third Annual Classical Pride concert is set for May 31 at 4 p.m. inside the Unitarian Church on 4 Archdale Street, featuring George Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F and performances by local choirs plus the Classical Pride Chamber Orchestra. Tickets are $30 plus fees with student tickets available at $20 plus fees.  Moultrie News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Explore Charleston released its 2025 Economic Impact of Tourism report showing tourism generated $14.35 billion, the highest ever recorded; the report noted a 2.3% increase from 2024 with record airport traffic of 6.34 million passengers and 55,500 industry jobs, all driven by a focus on high-value visits.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the May 13 Rotary Club meeting, past and present scholarship recipients shared personal journeys. 2026 honoree Nyssa Evangeline Kuonen will attend USC; last year's winner Charlotte Genevieve Hill studies at Rhodes College (Rotary President Ken Tallmadge explained scholarships start at $1,500 and increase with GPA).  Moultrie News
  • Four CCSD seniors from Academic Magnet and Wando were named as National Merit Scholarship finalists, each receiving a $2,500 award announced on May 14 (they are the only public school recipients in the Tri-County and Lowcountry). They were chosen after a rigorous screening process involving PSAT scores, applications, and recommendations.  Charleston County School District

  • Florida Everblades beat the Stingrays 7-3 on Wednesday night at North Charleston Coliseum in Game 3 of the South Division Finals. The Stingrays could not overcome an early five-goal deficit as Florida scored multiple times in the later periods.  WCIV
