  • An 18-year-old man from Charleston was arrested Tuesday for armed robbery after a Monday night shooting near Domino’s Pizza on Bowen Pier Drive in Hanahan that killed 18-year-old Tra’sean White — details remain unknown as the investigation continues.  WCIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lowcountry sweetgrass basket makers, crafters, and artists are invited to apply for the 21st Annual Sweetgrass Festival. Organizers said the juried show will take place on July 26 at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park and the application deadline is June 23.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Preschoolers at Primrose School in Mount Pleasant raised $1,600 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of their teacher’s daughter. The fundraiser, part of the annual Spring Fling event, showed the school’s commitment to giving back + supported local efforts for MS care.  Moultrie News
  • On Monday night, CCSD leaders held a board meeting where they restricted enrollment at Lucy Beckham + allowed transfers to Jane Edwards if tuition and transportation were arranged. The board reviewed a $915 million budget that raised teacher pay and staff wages and postponed a vote on innovative courses to the May 19 meeting.  WCIV

  • The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources announced that public shellfish harvesting will end May 28 as warmer water helps restore oyster beds for breeding—only a few regulated oyster farms will continue operations while coastal waters stay closed until fall.  WCIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in Mount Pleasant are urged to learn stroke signs such as sudden loss of balance, blurred vision, and slurred speech — symptoms that require an immediate 911 call to get prompt treatment. In 2024, EMS responded to over 15,000 stroke calls, highlighting the need for fast action to reduce long-term damage.  Moultrie News
